KNITTED WINE BOTTLE GIFT BAG -EASY

If you ever take a bottle of wine as a host or hostess gift this is an easy wrap for it.  Choose any yarn.  Make your gauge to see how many stitches you need to go around the bottle, then add 2 more for the seam.  Knit till it's long enough to cover the bottle, then knit a few more rows and bind off.  Fold in half with the wrong side (if there is one) out and sew up the back or side seam.   Crochet a chain long enough to use to wrap around the neck of the bottle and tie in a bow.  Or, just take some long strands of yarn and tie it around.

WINE BAG - MORE ADVANCED

I made this bag upside down, starting at the top, on double pointed needles.  I used a Polished Cotton that got about 5 stitches to the inch on #6 needles.

Cast on 32 sts.
On first row divide onto 3 needles  TIP: Make sure to place a marker at the start of the row.  To make sure it doesn't fall off the needle put it between the first and second stitches.
Knit even for 5 inches, or however long the neck of the bottle is.
On the next 2 rows increase 1 stitch at the beginning of each of the 3 needles.
On the next rows increase at the beg. and end of each needle until there are 56 sts.
Knit even, adding color if you wish, for 7 more inches, or long enough to cover the wine bottle.
Start decreasing every 5 stitches for 5 rows, then every 4, 3, 2, 1 till only a few sts. remain.
Cut yarn and pull through to close.

Make an I Cord to use as a handle.  TIP: Leave enough yarn at the beginning and end to use to attach.
